12 Week Course

Making Space

In person, £400. Online, £330.

This special course looks to dissolve creative blocks and to get you thinking deeply about your own creative direction and style. Creativity and being in the flow state that comes when being creative reduces stress and activates the soothing parasympathetic nervous system. It changes the brain state to that of a daydream like relaxed concentration that helps to clean and clear all the gunk that stress and screens build up.

The practical task you are working on distracts the bossy prefrontal cortex, keeping it busy so it doesn’t keep butting in with helpful security alerts. This distraction opens the door for the subconscious to communicate. The subconscious offers wisdom, helps with making decisions, processing feelings and can even provide a release for grief and trauma.

“I’m just not a creative person” is such a common phrase. It’s akin to saying “I’m just not a fit person.” It means you just haven’t trained or practised, that’s all.

In this instance it’s the process that does the healing, not the product.

This 12 week creativity development course leans heavily on structure from Julia Cameron’s The Artist’s Way. I’ve used my Creative Thinking Masters degree research to adapt and amalgamate the course.

The course is for anybody that has always wanted to develop their creative practice and wants guidance and support and a system to work with to get there, alongside a community of other like minded individuals that are doing the same thing. We build a community to support and be supported and often make genuine connections and lifelong friends.

It’s also for anybody ready to do work on themselves to identify and leave behind ingrained beliefs that are holding you back from finding yourself and from moving forwards.

Course Structure

The course structure is flexible and it’s formed around and co created with the needs of the group. You can expect to cover:

Week 1

Recovering a Sense of Safety. You identify fear based thoughts, confront “censor” voices from the past, and replace them with positive affirmations.

Week 2

Recovering a Sense of Identity. You focus on boundary setting, noticing who or what drains your energy, and identifying your core likes and dislikes.

Week 3

Recovering a Sense of Power. You examine feelings of anger and tackle syncopated rhythms or procrastination.

Week 4

Recovering a Sense of Integrity. You map out personal truths and begin unearthing hidden, neglected interests.

Week 5

Recovering a Sense of Possibility. You confront your “limitations” and challenge the negative rules you have internalized about what you can or cannot achieve.

Week 6

Recovering a Sense of Abundance. You tackle money myths, explore the connection between self worth and net worth, and learn to value your “creative luxury.”

Week 7

Recovering a Sense of Connection. You address the fear of failure and practice actively listening to your inner voice.

Week 8

Recovering a Sense of Strength. You acknowledge the grief involved in creative projects and learn to identify and survive creative blocks.

Week 9

Recovering a Sense of Compassion. You look into the obstacles of perfectionism, jealousy, and the paralysis that comes from wanting to do things “perfectly.”

Week 10

Recovering a Sense of Self Protection. You uncover toxic habits, addictions, or relationships that distract you from your authentic creative work.

Week 11

Recovering a Sense of Autonomy. You discard the need for external validation and focus on trusting your internal creative impulses.

Week 12

Recovering a Sense of Trust. You transition from doing the work to trusting the process, focusing on creative expansion rather than the final product.
