Ethics, Inclusivity & Sustainability

Ahimsa means non-harm. This shapes not just how I work with clients, but every decision I make as a business, who I welcome, what I buy, where I bank, and the mark I leave on the world.

"You belong here. Exactly as you are."

Ahimsa Studio is explicitly and unconditionally welcoming to everyone. This is not a marketing statement, it is a founding commitment that shapes every aspect of how the studio operates, how it communicates, and who it serves.

๐Ÿณ๏ธโ€๐ŸŒˆ LGBTQIA+ friendly

  • Marketing reflects the diversity of the community I serve

  • Body-positive language in all sessions and marketing, always
  • Intake forms include optional mental health context
  • Right to stop or change any session without explanation
  • Safeguarding awareness, appropriate signposting where needed
"Ahimsa Studio is for everyone who has ever felt like they needed permission to take up space, to feel good, or to begin again. You have that permission here."
What I do now
๐Ÿšข
Recycled container
The studio itself is a repurposed shipping container, an industrial structure given a second life rather than new construction.
๐Ÿช‘
All furniture second-hand
Every piece of furniture in Ahimsa Studio is second-hand or donated. No new manufacturing, no supply chain emissions from furniture.
๐ŸŒฑ
Vegan everything
100% vegan organic tattoo inks, cruelty-free aftercare, plant-based biodegradable gloves. No animal derivatives anywhere in the studio.
๐Ÿšฒ
Zero-emission commute
I cycle to the studio every working day. Zero commuting emissions, 52 weeks a year, no exceptions.
๐Ÿ’Ž
Reclaimed gems & metals
All jewellery sold at Ahimsa Studio uses reclaimed gems and metals. No new mining, no extraction supply chain.
๐Ÿ‘•
Charity shop t-shirts
Every t-shirt I sell is sourced from charity shops and screen-printed. Zero virgin textile production, zero fast fashion.
๐Ÿฆ
Ethical banking
Co-operative Bank, one of the UK's leading ethical banks, with a comprehensive policy excluding fossil fuels, arms, and harmful industries.
๐ŸŒ
Green hosting & email
My website and business email run through Krystal, a certified B Corp on 100% renewable energy. Email marketing runs through EcoSend, also a UK B Corp.
๐ŸŒฟ
Plant-based plastics
Biodegradable gloves and surface covers replace conventional petroleum-based single-use plastics in the tattoo studio.
๐ŸŽถ
Fair trade singing bowls
Every singing bowl is handmade in Nepal from bronze by artisans paid fairly and upfront, no leather strikers, no unnecessary packaging.
โ˜€๏ธ
Renewable energy (planned)
Roof solar not possible, there's another container above mine. Exploring Hackney community energy schemes and wall-mounted flexible solar film. Year 1 to 2 goal.
What I can't fully solve, yet
Clinical waste disposal and single-use tattooing consumables create unavoidable environmental costs. I'm honest about this. My approach is to minimise through vegan and biodegradable alternatives, and to offset what remains through a verified carbon offset programme. I'm aiming for carbon neutral by Year 2. The goal is not to be a perfect business. The goal is to be an honest one.
Estimated annual carbon footprint
~990
kg COโ‚‚e per year (early estimate, not yet measured)
0
kg from commuting, cycle every day
~8ร—
below UK small business average
Year 2
target: carbon neutral via offsets
This is a rough planning estimate. I'll formally measure on opening using Small99 and carbonfootprint.com, then update this annually with real figures.
Estimated breakdown by source
Electricity (Containerville supply)~300 kg
LED lighting and minimal equipment significantly reduces vs average studio
Client travel (est. 200 visits/yr)~450 kg
Mix of public transport and cycling. Optional client carbon contribution at booking, planned Year 1.
Tattoo consumables (vegan)~150 kg
Vegan plant-based products have a significantly lower manufacturing footprint than conventional
Clinical waste incineration~75 kg
Unavoidable. Energy recovery incineration used where available.
My commuting0 kg
I cycle every working day. Zero commuting emissions.
Digital (hosting, email marketing)~15 kg
Green web hosting and email marketing substantially reduce digital footprint
